December 7: The 15th AMYC is over! We, the committee, have had an absolutely wonderful experience in serving you. We are so thankful to God for giving us this opportunity to host the convention this year. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making it a huge success! May the fires that have been stoked never be put out - keep it burning! Keep the unity strong! Go and serve where God wants you to serve!

We will see you next year in Brisbane for the 16th AMYC - 2010 - "Holy, Wholly Holy" ! 28 November - 1 December. Start planning!

November 21: Transport information: the transport officers have arranged your transport from the day you arrive until the last day of convention (2 December) - we will make sure you are dropped off to where you need to be. If you are staying in Perth longer than this, any further assistance must be requested to the transport officers in advance, or we'll assume you're okay on your own.

November 19: 10 days until we kick off the 15th AMYC! We are extremely excited, and looking forward to seeing you very soon! Please keep us in your prayers as we make our final plans, pray for safety for all travellers, and to be blessed with great weather during those days. Yee Shin will be emailing all delegates regarding final information, but the important bits are summarised here also.

Here are some items you must bring to convention!

1. Bible and pen

2. Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, bathers if you wish. Perth is very hot in summer and usually reaches high 20's to low 30's this time of year. There's a nearby beach which you might be able to visit in your free time too.

3. Sleeping bag & pillow slip - the campsite provides the mattress and pillow only. Linen if you wish.

4. Summer clothes and toiletries - bring a change of light clothes for the games on Monday; there will be sports & you may get dirty!

OPENING CEREMONY & TRANSPORT DETAILS

As we have previously stated, the opening ceremony for the AMYC will be held at Kingsway Methodist Church at 2:00 PM on Sunday 29 November.

KMC and GMC delegates must arrive at KMC for a 10:00am combined closing ceremony for the Annual Conference (not youth). You are responsible for your own transport to this venue. Once you arrive, look out for convention committee (wearing the camp t-shirt!) or signs that will direct you to the luggage storage area.

Interstate delegates - the transport committee members Roslyn and Albert should have been in touch with you regarding pickup / transport to KMC. You should also arrive before 10:00am to KMC to join the combined closing ceremony. If you are unsure of your transport situation please contact Roslyn / Albert urgently.

Lunch will be provided for all those attending the morning combined closing ceremony.

IMC delegates - you will be having your normal Sunday service in Manning. Please arrive in KMC by 1:30PM to drop your luggage, and to be in time for the 2:00PM start of the opening ceremony.

Following the opening ceremony, we will all be travelling by coach to the campsite, unless you have previously arranged an alternative method with us.

POST AMYC REUNION

We have noted that there will be a fair few interstate delegates still in Perth following the convention. Therefore, we've decided to take the opportunity to host a combined district youth gathering in KMC. All delegates are invited, as well as chinese & english youths from KMC, IMC and GMC.

October 30: Something to whet your appetites - a sneak peek at the PROGRAMS for the AMYC!

Note; this is still a draft and may be subject to change!

Also, in case you didn't know, the workshop session that will take place on Monday afternoon will proceed like this: the Chinese side of the congregation will have the one workshop that all Chinese delegates will attend. The English side will have a choice from two workshops - Adrian Van Leen on "Beware the Story Tellers!" OR Benjamin Ho on "Secrets for the youth leader, shepherd and mentor". October 19: We now have over 220 registrations! Ern Halliday recreation camp has a limit of 250 people, and this means that if you still wish to register, you had better be quick to avoid disappointment. If you want to come, please email us ASAP. A reminder that registrations will close on November 1.

There are a few people who have either not yet given us their complete form with flight details & t-shirt size, and a few who have not yet paid. You'll be getting an email if you are one of these people.

On Sunday 29 November at 10am there will be a Annual Conference Closing Ceremony at Kingsway Methodist Church, followed by lunch & AMYC opening ceremony. Interstate Delegates, we will be contacting you / your representative as to the best way to come to our church for the service. If you are arriving at the airport on Sunday morning, it is likely that we will be picking you up and taking you to church. WA Delegates, you will be attending your own church Sunday morning service, and then arriving at Kingsway Methodist Church by 1:30PM for the 2:00pm start of the AMYC opening ceremony. We're very sorry you couldn't join us but our church will be filled to twice its capacity already!

September 13: A quick count has revealed that there have been 170 REGISTRATIONS!Thank you for the huge response, and remember, if you have paid and not yet given us the registration form (or vice versa), please do so ASAP! We're on our way to being the biggest convention ever!

The Ern Halliday Recreation Camp is a coastal site with direct access to Whitford Beach, surrounded by 28 hectares of natural bush. It is an ideal place for youths to get together to learn about God and share some fun in a unique environment that is far away from the hustle and bustle of the world. The campsite is located on Whitfords Avenue, Hillarys, approximately 1.5km north of the Hillarys Marina. If walking from Hillarys Marina, an underpass connects the camp to Whitford Beach.

Rev Dr. Brian Harris
Brian has lived in both South Africa and New Zealand and has successfully been the Senior Pastor of three churches, each of which grew dramatically. He is in demand as a preacher, speaker and teacher in both local and overseas. Married to Rosemary, and with three children Nick, Amy and Jett, he has recently completed a PhD interacting with the thought of Stanley Grenz and exploring the nature and future of evangelical theology.

Ps. Benjamin Ho - Will be speaking at a combined session on Full Time Ministry

In a chronological nutshell, Benjamin Ho was born in Singapore, migrated to Brisbane at age 11, returned to Singapore for National Service, studied Physiotherapy in University of Queensland, worked in a hospital, did a ministry apprenticeship at an International University Church in UNSW (FOCUS), married Faith, studied at Moore Theological College, fathered 2 children (Anastasia [3+] and Maia [1]), and is now the English pastor of Chinese Christian Church Brisbane St Lucia.

Ben and Faith have particularly enjoyed evangelising, encouraging, exhorting and sharing their lives with students who have come from overseas to study. They love ministering to the church through hospitality. As a young teacher-pastor, Ben struggles, but works hard at both preaching and shepherding God’s people. God has so far been pleased to speak to and grow His flock through Ben!

Ben would consider himself a keen home barista and relaxes by watching sport and great drama, action and thriller movies!

Adrian Van Leen: "Beware the Story Tellers!"
Adrian van Leen is the Founder-Director of LOOKOUT/CCG Ministries, a Christian counter-cult ministry – sharing with people in matters of faith and understanding, supporting them in times of spiritual concern, confusion or conflict – especially when they, or members of their families, become involved in groups, or with individuals, where faith has gone astray or where emotional and spiritual manipulation and domination have occurred; seeking opportunities for them to discover the truth that will bring emotional and spiritual freedom through Jesus Christ, as well as opportunities for their growth with balance and compassion in their relationship with God, through Jesus Christ, as well as in their relationships with others.

Adrian has had 17 years of pastoral ministry in Churches of Christ and commenced LOOKOUT/CCG Ministries in late 1979. He has taught in many churches, schools, colleges - including Bible Colleges, around Australia adn parts of Asia. He has been an expert witness in court and has been interviewed on TV, radio and for various print media over the years. He is married to Lorrie, who works in the Ministry with him. They have two adult children: Debbie, a child-care worker, and David, a pastor (they also have three grandchildren: Ben, Hannah and Zac).
Adrian will be speaking on: Beware the Story Tellers - Frauds and liars who that have sucked Christians in with tall tales about themselves.

for those of us who are in a leadership role, or thinking of going into youth ministry, or would just like to know more about being a youth leader!

The Australian Methodist Youth Convention (AMYC) is back!

This year PERTH is proud to host the 15th AMYC, and it's going to be a great one! A big thank you to Adelaide for hosting last year's convention.

The convention will be held from 29 November until 2 December at Ern Halliday Recreation Camp, Hillarys, Perth. The Chinese speaker is Rev. Liu Xiao Ping and the English speaker will be Rev. Dr. Brian Harris.

The Chinese theme this year is 武灵英雄，吾领先锋.
领袖常常是许多人向往并想拥有的一个地位、权柄。在圣经中也有许多优秀的领袖，比如摩西、约书亚、但以理甚至是国王如扫罗王、大卫王及所罗们王。这些大伟人都不是靠着自己的聪明或智慧治理百姓，乃是有上帝的恩典、祝福、力量、聪明与智慧引领着。

我们是否曾经被神蒙召但却因害怕而将圣灵的感动推到远远的呢? 心里曾烧起的灵火，冷冷的被扑灭。上帝不会将我们所不能承担的加给我们。盼望透过这营会，每一位弟兄姐妹能勇敢的面对现在与将来的困难。无任是在社会工作或教会的生活事奉都做个好帮主！

以圣经的话成为我们脚前的灯，路上的光！

The English theme this year is Called To Lead. As young people, leadership is something that we might not be familiar with. You might think that we're not all born to be leaders. Leadership is necessarily restricted to those in the traditional leadership roles - like in your Youth Group.

However, God has called us to be leaders in our homes, schools, workplaces and church. As you'll find out, we are all called to lead, and to set an example for others in the faith.

What does it mean to be a leader though? Sure, having the personal skills of leadership, such as vision, drive, integrity, servanthood, setting a good example - these help; but also it means to carry out the tasks God have given to us. We have to do His work, and we have to lead sinners to Jesus.

Let's come together and learn how to be 21st century leaders!

We would LOVE to see you in Perth at the end of the year! Keep your diaries free for the week, take time off work, book your flights early! Perth is (in my opinion) the best city in the world to live in! We have the best beaches, a relaxed lifestyle, and the most friendly people. I know I'm a bit biased, but you'll have to see for yourself what we have to offer. Why not take a few days before or after the convention to go and explore?

Transport to and from campsite

FULL TIME DELEGATES:

High quality Thomson coaches will provide return transportation to and from the camp site. The pickup and drop off point going to and from the campsite will be at Kingsway Methodist Church (38-40 Kingsway, Nedlands).
No option for personal transportation to the campsite will be available.

PART TIME DELEGATES:

Own method of transportation must be organised before date of arrival. Once personal transportation has been organised and confirmed please contact the Transport Officers by 20^th of November 2009 with the following details -

o Driver’s name and Passenger/s name’s

o Contact number and email address

o Date and time of arrival and departure

Please note that all part time delegates will be required to arrive at the campsite 30 minutes prior to program commencement. Additionally, if transport issues arise please notify the Transport Officers for assistance.

There are various methods and options to explore the beautiful city of Perth. The more popular and easier methods are via public transportation which include trains, buses, ferry and the free Cat Bus around City of Perth.

Arriving before 29^th of Nov

- From Perth Airport -

The following are the options available to arrive safely from the Perth Airport to your chosen accommodation –

Option 1:

A Transport Officer will organise a group pickup (i.e. two or more people) and drop off on the day to your chosen accommodation. Please organise a group of two or more people to travel with to make it easier for us.

Contact a Transport Officer at least a week prior to arrival with the following details –

o Names of all the people that you have organised to travel with in the same flight

o Contact numbers of all the people you have organised to travel with in the same flight

o Name and address of accommodation

Option 2:

If you have arranged residential accommodation with a family or friend, please notify them ahead of time in regards to getting picked up. If however the family or friend is unable to provide personal transportation, contact a Transport Officer with the following details and a group pickup will be organised -

o Names of all the people that you have organised to travel with in the same flight
o Contact numbers of all the people you have organised to travel with in the same flight
o Name and address of accommodation

- Transport to Church on 29/11 -

There is a combined service at 10am at Kingsway Methodist Church to close the Annual Conference. We will be leaving for the convention after the service, so we invite all delegates to participate in worship with us!

Take public transport to a specified pick up point. Group pickup (via cars) will be provided at the pickup point. More information will be provided closer to date.

Arriving on the 29^th of Nov

Please organise flight arrival before 8:30a.m. The Transport Officers will provide group pickup on the day directly to church.

Registration is now open! It's a little different this year - registration forms have been sent to each of your youth groups, and they are also available online for you, but submission will be through a representative from your youth group.

In other words, the registration form should be given to the representative from your youth group, who will then pass it to us - either by email (scanned) or snail mail.

Payment
There are two payment options this year.
1. Direct Deposit - this can be done via your local branch or online. Information is on the registration form, but importantly, note your name as a reference on the transfer as well as your registration form so we can match it up.
2. Cheque - you should give this cheque to your representative along with the form, who will then pass it to us via mail. Please also note your name so that we will know who the cheque is from!

Early Bird registration is due by the 16th August 2009 (Sunday) - this includes the form and full payment.
